Tony Plunkett's RCRD LBL

Writing about music is fun and I am thankful to have the opportunity to do it. Here is a bunch of RCRD LBL songs that I like, only one of which I actually brought in myself. It's in alphabetical order, for ease of use.

Sigh, first day of December, the turkey's cold, the hangover is waning, and you can't even afford half the X-mas sales this year. The one thing to look forward to? Free holiday parties. Even better? Holiday parties with stellar music. Case in point: Magnum PR's soiree at Santos on 12/10 is boasting some of our favs: Golden Animals, Des Roar and Gringo Star.
To further bolster holiday cheer, we've included the track "The Steady Roller" by Golden Animals. Tommy Eisner throws his lazy baritone over hazy rock riffs, like a rebirthed Morrison rising from the psychedelic haze. Save this one for the playlist en route to Burning Man, mushrooms in your back pocket, desert dust swirling behind you.
Sounds like: The Doors, Devendra Banhart, Nick Cave, Gringo Star

Climbing pop pylons toward sore-soul beat banes, huffing at noise fumes and crystal mirth - hack'n'jam it, daemons!!! A limey apogee.

For our one-year anniversary, we reached out to some of the people and artists that we work to ask them to create a playlist of tunes from our catalog. We got some great ones back, and we'll be posting them throughout the rest of the week. As always, these are embeddable on other blogs, websites, etc. so share them around and stay tuned for more.
Today we have some selections from Mike Pace of Brooklyn rockers Oxford Collapse, who released their last album BITS on Sub Pop in August. Mike chose a brawny mix of stuff, everything from Bad Brains to Love Is All. Enjoy!
Oxford Collapse - The Birthday Wars

About two weeks ago we introduced you to the Neptunes' new pop proteges, Chester French. Their single "She Loves Everybody" has been making the rounds for a minute (including a slot on an episode of Entourage) and in addition to the Neptunes remix we already gifted, we now have a much more maximal reworking of the tune from our good friend Steve Aoki. Steve's stepped it up with some big room drum hits and a pretty destructive synth line (think the "Phantom Pt. II" hook with more throb) so this should lodge nicely amongst the usual dancefloor suspects. NYC'ers, you can catch Chester French for free tonight at the Music Hall Of Williamsburg alongside Charles Hamilton, The Knux, and Jus Ske as part of Puma's 60th Birthday celebrations. Tickets are available at Puma stores around the city. More info on that and other Puma Birthday events (including one with Steve) right here.
Sounds like: Justice, The Bloody Beetroots, Baby Diamonds

For those of you who may have had the (dis)pleasure of reading or hearing anything I've posted in the past several months, you may notice that eleven of the twelve songs lovingly assembled here are jammers I personally brought to the site. Chances are slim! In aaaany case, call it a mixtape that's also a very small window into my brain. Or a sonic reminder that I'm a total cornball who can't follow instructions all that well. Or just have a listen—it's really really fun.
Of all of the great Tom Petty videos, this is his most memorable. He wore out the Mad Hatter thing for years after this (proof here and here) and the song is a classic. You can still here this out when some of the more adventurous disco guys sneak this into the later hours of their sets. The beat just sounds like it's unfolding during every measure and the "Hey!" parts satisfy even the most tone deaf of singers. Also, the gnar-handed sitar guy atop the big mushroom in the beginning? That's Dave Stewart from the Eurhythmics, who co-wrote the track (originally for Stevie Nicks too!).

I like a lot of different stuff, so our diverse catalog gave me a really fun space to play around in for this. From hardcore to house and back, these are the tunes that I jam the hardest.
